GLA hires eModeration to moderate first online State of London Debate

Moderation and community management company, eModeration, will be working with the Greater London Authority to help Londoners  have their say in the first ever online annual State of London Debate.

The event has a new and exciting format this year designed to enable the widest possible number of Londoners to take part and put their questions and comments to the Mayor, Boris Johnson, and senior members of his administration.

The debate, which takes place on 24th June 2010 between 6pm and 8:30 pm, can be viewed live via the GLA website and users can submit questions during the event via Twitter @mayoroflondon. Radio station LBC 97.3 FM will also be offering a schedule of programmes including phone-in sessions and the opportunity to meet and question the Mayor in person.

In the run up to the event Londoners can use the official forums to voice their opinions and put questions to the Mayor and senior members of his administration under the four topic headings of the Environment, Transport, Economy and Policing. The forum is hosted and moderated by eModeration, who will also be choosing and transcribing pertinent comments from the user generated video site WinkBall, which has posted videos from Londoners discussing this year's issues.

Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said: “I promised to make City Hall more open and accountable to Londoners and this debate is another opportunity for them to hear what we are doing to improve life in the capital, to question me and my administration and tell us what we are doing well and, more importantly, where we can do better. By hosting the debate across so many platforms; online, on radio and face-to-face, more Londoners than ever before have a chance to get involved in shaping the future of their city”.

Tamara Littleton, CEO, eModeration said: “The ability to question our political leaders is one of the cornerstones of a democratic society, which makes all of us at eModeration proud to be working with the GLA on the very first online annual debate."
