Supersecret

eModeration provided community management consultancy for Supersecret (www.supersecret.com),  a new virtual world / MMOG aimed at children aged 7-12. In SuperSecret, tweens can play games, explore, and interact with each other by chatting, all while learning online social skills. Using characters, players "grow up" by accumulating age points and earning responsibilities such as having a pet, owning a house, and even having a car.

Supersecret asked eModeration to evaluate and enhance all current moderation guidelines and processes, with a focus on overall member safety. The task was to provide comprehensive documentation and procedures while ensuring that the Supersecret members continue to enjoy a rich in-game experience. The consultancy resulted in documentation about character name moderation, child safety best practices, safety escalation procedures, moderation best practices, internal communications strategies and in-game member messaging.

eModeration worked closely with Supersecret's moderation staff and with senior management to ensure that information was tailored and suitable for the Supersecret audience and Supersecret's business needs.

“Working with Ashley at eModeration was a pleasure. She was extremely professional, knowledgeable and most importantly thorough. The documentation she helped us develop will go a long way as we grow and expand our moderation team."

Dizzywood - moderating in a virtual world

Dizzywood is a children’s virtual world launched by Rocket Paper Scissors in November 2007.  With a focus on quality storytelling, creative vision, and technological innovation, Dizzywood allows kids to dress up their own 3D avatars, play games, explore unique and imaginative areas, and meet new friends in a safe environment.  Whether it’s a visit to a Mayan-themed jungle or a super power challenge to defeat Emperor Withering, Dizzywood offers children ages 8-12 the opportunity to create their own adventure, cooperate with other players in story-based activities, and have fun while learning.

eModeration was brought on board early on to collaborate and consult with Dizzywood on child safety – helping to develop moderation tools and safety rules, working with the client to determine the best moderation techniques, and providing feedback on technical issues and moderation policies.

Moderating live worlds requires special skills from a dedicated and highly trained, very involved team. They must be extremely fast on their feet: able to interact with users and moderate quickly to keep pace with a multitude of activities on various servers and a barrage of real-time chat. Tact and sensitivity are crucial to interact with young site users and of course the moderators must be extremely vigilant for any sign of child abuse or bullying.

Dizzywood is fast-moving in other ways too: often our moderators have to navigate new tools with short notice and quickly assimilate new features and changes to the site. What we do mostly though is keep what is fun, safe.

eModeration has been a wonderful resource to Dizzywood in establishing a safe environment for kids online. Safety being a top priority for Dizzywood, we were very interested in finding a company we could trust and rely on for expert guidance in this arena. eModeration's proven experience, quick response times, flexibility, and high level of professionalism have proven invaluable to us in these early, fast-moving stages of the company.”
